In Algeria, the production of forage seeds is insufficient. Introduction and extension of medics and subterranean clover cultivation have needed an important quantity of seeds. In order to satisfy these needs, the trials of seed production of Australian cultivars of Medicago ciliaris and Trifolium subterraneum (Paraggio, Sephi, Serena, Sapo, Borung, Rotata 1943, Rotata 2123 and Clare) and of local ecotypes were realized in 1986/87, 1989/90 and 1990/92. The exploitation has been variable a stocking rate of 8 sheep/ha (in bad years) to 43 sheep/ha (in good years). The yield of seeds is changeable according to cultivars and years (112 kg/ha to 330/ha).
