The evolution of suckler cow farming systems in Spanish mountain areas was studied (1989/91-2004). Results showed important structural adjustments (physical and economic size), change of productive orientation, extensification of grazing management, reduction of variable cost and large increase of labour productivity due to the impact of subsidies on economic indicators.

L'analyse des systèmes d'élevage de bovins allaitants dans les Pyrénées centrales espagnoles montrent une considérable adaptation structurelle des exploitations, un changement d'orientation productive et une gestion technique plus extensive. Les résultats économiques ont fortement augmenté, grâce à la contribution des soutiens directs aux exploitations.
