Preliminary observations on some Sicilian pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) varieties

Barone E., Sottile F., Caruso T., Marra F.P.

The pomological and analytical characteristics of 6 Sicilian pomegranate selections are reported and described in comparison to those presented by a Spanish selection. Overall, the average characteristics of the local selections were somewhat less attractive than those of the Spanish ones, even if with some interesting exception. Nevertheless, a considerable amount of variation has been found among the different local selections, especially as far as No. of arils per fruit, pericarp thickening and titratable acidity are concerned.
