Resistance to stresses is a complex character. Abiotic stresses affect crop production and despite many decades of research, they continue to be a major challenge to agricultural scientists. Drought, heat and salt are the most important to be considered in the selection of new genotypes. Stay-green trait in durum wheat is also evaluated. When water is limited during the grain filling period, genotypes possessing this trait maintain more photosynthetically active leaves. In this presentation an idea of a new ideotype of plant is discussed.
