The dusky grouper, Epinephelus marginatus, is a popular recreational and food fish in the Mediterranean Sea which has been seriously depleted in many areas. We have studied the feasibility of its reproduction in captivity for aquaculture diversification and for stock enhancement since 1995. This paper briefly analyses the key areas of broodstock husbandry, ovarian development, hormone induced spawning, sex inversion and first larval rearing.
