The use of aerial facilities for extinguishing forest fires has increased considerably in recent years. Spain, a Mediterranean country particularly affected by this type of event, uses a large number of aircrafts for fire-fighting each year. Because of the substantial budget required for such airborne operations, it is necessary to possess a means of controlling and criticising the use of aircraft that can detect anomalies, repeated errors and organisational defects that should be corrected in subsequent years. For this, the head office of ICONA developed a computer program in 1992 which, using a standard data gathering form, can produce recapitulatory tables concerning various aspects of the use of aircraft.
