Ingestibilité et digestibilité des aliments par le dromadaire

Richard D.

Little is known about the digestive utilisation of food by the dromedary, and the quantities of dry matter it consumes. Very few experiments are reported in publications, and the data is often not sufficient enough to make it possible to draw up characteristics of the dromedary's nutrition. From studies carried out, it appears however that the main variation factors of fodder digestibility and of quantities ingested by this animal are the same as those observed in other ruminants. The few available results of digestibility sometimes show a digestive utilisation of food close to that observed in ovine, and sometimes close to that of bovine. Ingested quantities are generally not much different from those of bovine for the few foods that were studied, but it is impossible to establish a few references for the quantity of dry matter consumed, in relation to the metabolic weight.
