Impact du pâturage hivernal par des brebis sur une végétation de garrigue à chêne kermès

Arnaud M., Molénat G., Vincent M.

>From 1991 to 1995 a group of ewes taken from the Merinos d'Arles Domaine du Merle flock was fed in february and march on a Quercus coccifera garrigue. They had access to a yeast-molaises liquid supplement. The animal pressure expressed as ewes x days/ha varied from year to year between 500 and 1170 and the supplement intake between 64 and 85 g/ewe/day. The body scores observed showed a maintenance level on a sample of ewes fed on garrigue as well as on a control group remained in the Domaine du Merle flock. The volume of bushes and trees increased rapidly from the 1st to the 2nd or 3rd year and then became relatively stable, especially for Quercus coccifera. Bupleurum, a heavily browsed species, shows voide fluctuations from year to year probably linked with the animal pressure: its high volume in 1994 can be the consequence of a shortened ewes presence in 1993 as a result of a snow fall. The herbaceous plants cover has not been affected by winter grazing. The achieved stocking rate varied from year to year, so did the spontaneous feed resource and it is suggested that the first stayed close to that allowed by the second.
