Danish approach on swine production with no antibiotics

Hedegaard A.

Those of the Danish swine producers who have the optimum production facilities are still able to produce pigs with a minimum of antibiotics even though they cannot use antibiotic growth promoters any longer. So far the exclusion of antibiotic growth promoters has resulted in an increase in use of antibiotics for treatment. However, approaches such as optimum management, sectionised batch operation, restricted feeding and ground raw cereals together with organic acids have minimized this increase at present.
