Effetto degli stress abiotici e meccanismi di protezione delle varietà di grano in Albania

Kongjika E., Shameti L., Kongjika S.

In this study the responses of 8 varieties and 7 mutants of wheat to heat shock are estimated and the responses of 2 varieties (one thermotolerant and the other thermosensitive) under oxidative stress (hydrogen peroxide). Peroxidase activity was assayed by Evans spectrophotometric method. Specific changes of POD activity of different varieties and mutants under two abiotic stresses were found. The increase in POD activity of tolerant varieties (which are the most widespread in Albania) was observed, while for the sensitive ones with visible damages, the POD activity decreased. It was demonstrated that the preliminary treatment of plants with CaCl2 solution affects the POD activity. The reduction of enzyme damage degree was found in the varieties with significant inhibition of POD activity under H2O2 stress. The appreciation of the peroxidase activity parameter is a practical criterion in the screening of tolerant varieties, which will increase the number of useful wheat forms in Albania.
